John Malagise
Finance by training, builder by habit: a polymath, the person for the job when the job is unknown.
About
I'm based in Pittsburgh and work where atoms meet bits. In the field I manage industrial water-treatment systems: cooling towers, steam boilers, wastewater and Legionella water safety. Off the clock I build the software, data flows and AI-agent systems that make that work faster and more reliable.
I studied finance at the University of Pittsburgh, took Computer Science and Economics coursework at Allegheny College, worked as an investment analyst, and ran heavy machinery on a plant floor. I like problems nobody has written the job description for yet. I'm also an American Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Michael Demko.
AquaExpert
AquaExpert · Iron Valley Holdings LLC
The central nervous system for a water-treatment business; using bits to move atoms better.
- Walchem controller data, field readings, inventory, compliance plans (ASHRAE 188 water management plans) and sales leads all flow into one system.
- A remote MCP server lets AI assistants work inside the platform directly.
Impact at CRB Water
- I manage customer water-treatment systems on my own: cooling tower, steam boiler, wastewater and Legionella water safety. ASSE 12080 certified.
- I found several new lead-acquisition channels and opened sales verticals the company hadn't explored, both in the field and through data.
- I changed how the company operates by building new information systems, and deliberately used as little AI as possible to do it.
The agent org
I run an organization of dozens of AI agents that handle engineering, QA, vendor ops, finance desks and personal logistics. My job is to manage them: I evaluate their output, trace their sources and fix reliability problems when they come up.
